Teaching through online journals
Sarah Fallon weighs up the effective use of blogs in schools in her article All the World’s a Stage: Teaching through online journals. Fallon restates what many of the sources I have referred to suggest; Blogs (and other new forms of media) give students a new audience to launch their work and ideas into – she states they are “giving classrooms a new way to face the world”. Fallon refers to Richardson’s use of blogs in his teaching (author of How to Use Podcasting in our Schools), whom states that students need an agenda for blog postings, suggesting that teachers could start by getting students to post their homework assignments.
The article highlights that as teachers we must be critical of our student’s blog and ask questions to inspire purposeful work.
